Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic happening all across the world, elite sport is still being allowed to continue across the European football spectrum. Therefore, the UEFA Champions League will continue, and this week will see a string of fascinating games take place all across the continent. The one we’re going to be taking a look at today will pit two former champions of the competition against one another – Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane may be known as one of the best managers in world football today, but acting as if there aren’t problems within the club is just outright wrong. They are still positioned as the favourites to win the La Liga title this season but for a team like Real that simply isn’t enough. Their fans have started to familiarise themselves with the prospect of going deep into the Champions League every single year, and anything less than that this time around will be viewed as a disappointment.

Team News

It’s safe to say that Real have their fair share of injury problems to worry about heading into this one. Militao is self isolating after testing positive for COVID-19, Vazquez is doubtful, and the following names have been ruled out – Odegaard, Odriozola, Carvajal, Mariano and Nacho.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan are on the outside of the Serie A title race looking in at this moment in time, but if anything is going to motivate them to turn that around, it’ll be the fact that their city rivals AC Milan are sitting at the top of the table. The Champions League is often viewed as the place where the elite go to play and Inter are hoping that they can slowly but surely re-establish themselves as a club that is more than capable of becoming contenders again.

Team News

There’s a huge chance that Lukaku won’t be fit in time to make the trip to Madrid and if he doesn’t, he’ll be joining Sanchez, Sensi and Vecino on the shelf, with Skriniar being highly unlikely to feature despite returning from COVID-19.

Factors to Consider

  • Real are in 4th place in Group B and Inter are in 3rd place after two games.
  • Real have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
  • Inter have won one, drawn four and lost one of their last six games.
  • Real have scored 13 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
  • Inter have scored eight goals and conceded seven in their last six games.

Conclusion

Both of these clubs are going through some tough times but when you put the two together, we can only picture a Real win. Inter just can’t buy a win right now and despite all of the flaws that Madrid have, they’re capable of beating most teams in European competition. The fact that both clubs are going through some tough times should ensure that we get an exciting show at the Bernabeu, which is why we’re predicting a high scoring encounter.

Prediction: Real Madrid win
