The last week has been an absolute whirlwind with there being a whole lot of information to take in regarding the official formation of the European Super League. Now that it seems to have dissolved before it’s even really been able to get off of the ground, we can focus our attention on the end of the season and what comes next. Today, we shift over to La Liga for an enticing battle between Real Madrid and Real Betis.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid still have a chance to pull off a pretty remarkable season but due to Florentino Perez’s presence at the club, there is a shadow that has been cast over proceedings. Many don’t know what kind of penalties they’ll face for sticking to their guns with the proposal of the ESL, but if they can try and focus on La Liga, they may still be able to wrestle back control of the title race from Atletico.
Team News
Valverde is out for this one courtesy of COVID-19 and he certainly isn’t the only absentee heading into this game. Vazquez has been officially ruled out through injury with the following players being listed as fitness doubts: Hazard, Modric, Mendy, Kroos and Ramos.
Real Betis
As a rising force within Spanish football it’s starting to feel as if Real Betis are becoming one of Spain’s most popular overall sides. They’re easy to watch, they have a fun fanbase and their online presence alone is enough to warrant some extra attention. They aren’t going to be finishing in the top four this season and that much is just kind of obvious but if they stay as consistent as they can, the top six isn’t exactly unattainable.
Team News
Fekir received a straight red card against Athletic Bilbao and will be suspended for this game as a result. Elsewhere, there are two confirmed injury absences in the form of Martin and Camarasa. Joaquin is expected to feature with Iglesias also starting up top – but we aren’t expecting him to sing many pop songs, unfortunately.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in September, Madrid beat Betis 3-2.
- Madrid have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
- Betis have won one, drawn four and lost one of their last six games.
- Madrid have scored 10 goals and conceded two in their last six games.
- Betis have scored six goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Conclusion
Betis have probably lit a fire underneath Madrid courtesy of their taunting after the European Super League debacle, but when push comes to shove, we just think the hosts will be far too good for Betis on the night. They’re riding a really strong wave of momentum and they have lethal attacking options from pretty much every direction, whereas Betis haven’t actually won a game in over a month. It’ll be close, but Zidane’s side will get it done.
