The La Liga season continues to roll on as the tussle for greatness between Real Madrid and Barcelona continues. These two continue to hold the distinction of being the kings of Spanish football, and with bragging rights on the line in addition to another league table, you can bet this race is going to go all the way. After Barca’s win against Leganes last night, it’s time to see whether or not Real can respond as they gear up for an intriguing clash against Valencia.
Real Madrid
The league’s return was met with joy by many fans, although some were wondering if and how it would impact some of the most elite teams across Europe. Real were sure to put any lingering concerns to rest pretty quickly in their comeback game against Eibar, as they raced out to a 3-1 victory. Whether or not they’re able to put the same kind of beating on Valencia remains to be seen, but they’ll be well aware of the fact that a draw probably isn’t going to be good enough to keep up with Barca.
Team News
There’s an injury ridden slate for Real with Nacho, Jovic and Vazquez being ruled out of this game, whereas Carvajal, Bale and Mariano are all doubts. Mendy is set to feature at full-back with Marcelo being tipped for a rest.
Valencia
Prior to the lockdown, Valencia were in freefall with some questionable league results combined with their exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Atalanta. While they’re still in the hunt to qualify for Europe once again, it’s incredibly tight and it’s clearly quite difficult for teams to stand out amongst the pack. With a game at the Bernabeu on the horizon, the struggles of Valencia could easily continue beyond this weekend.
Team News
Diakhaby is expected to be dropped following a poor performance against Levante, Piccini and Garay have been ruled out, and Gaya & Paulista are both doubts for the trip.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Valencia and Real Madrid drew 1-1.
- Real Madrid have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Valencia have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
- Real Madrid have scored nine goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
- Valencia have scored eight goals and conceded 14 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Valencia cannot keep a clean sheet to save their lives right now, and against a team as talented up top as Real Madrid, that’s going to prove to be their downfall. We think Real will start off quite tentatively before really going after the visitors, obtaining a lead before half time. Valencia will come forward and might even put the hosts under some pressure, but we really don’t think they’re going to be able to stop Real from reducing Barcelona’s lead at the top of the table.
