After 37 long and gruelling games, we’ve finally come to the end of the La Liga season. There’s just one set of fixtures left to be played and while the attention for many has already shifted to the Euros next month, there’s still an awful lot of uncertainty in the air regarding the final day and where everyone is going to end up. The title race, for example, is set to be decided with Atletico Madrid knowing a win over Real Valladolid will seal the title – but Valladolid have work to do themselves.

Real Valladolid

It may be a slim chance, but Real Valladolid are still in with a real shot of surviving in La Liga this season. The problem for them is that they’ve got the toughest job of the lot on the final day given that they’re facing the league leaders – although that could be precisely what spurs them on. They’ve got a few impact players who can make a difference, but actually being able to see it through and edge out the win is going to be unbelievably tough.

Team News

Orellana is considered to be a fitness doubt for this one with Alcaraz and Jimenez both being suspended. Elsewhere, Garcia and Kodro have been ruled out through injury with Valladolid being expected to throw caution to the wind with their line-up.

Atletico Madrid

One more win is all Atletico Madrid require to become Champions of Spain once again. It’s not going to be quite as simple as that, which goes without saying, but they’re the clear favourites here and they deserve to feel optimistic about their chances. They’ve led the league from the front for most of the campaign and if they wind up losing it on the final day, it’d be one of the biggest capitulations in recent memory.

Team News

Savic is suspended for this one after hitting a milestone booking against Osasauna. Gimenez is tipped to replace him at centre back with Correa featuring up top with Suarez and Felix, although Lemar’s fitness has been questioned as history awaits this great Atletico side.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in December, Atletico beat Valladolid 2-0.
  • Valladolid have drawn three and lost three of their last six games.
  • Atletico have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
  • Valladolid have scored five goals and conceded 13 in their last six games.
  • Atletico have scored eight goals and conceded four in their last six games.

Conclusion

There’s a chance, albeit a slim one, that Valladolid could pull off a small miracle here and stop Atletico Madrid from winning the title – but something tells us they just aren’t going to have what it takes to get the job done. They’re fighting for their lives in this game too but capturing the league title is such a huge honour, and we think a 3-1 win will see Atletico through to that crowning moment.
