Hoping to make it back-to-back Serie A victories on Monday night, Juventus will make the trip to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris when they meet Sampdoria.

Sampdoria

Starting with the hosts, while Sampdoria might have managed to keep hold of their Serie A status back in May, many across Italy are expecting another tough campaign for the Blucerchiati. Despite enjoying somewhat of a summer boost as they extended on their Coppa Italia adventure thanks to a 1-0 victory against Reggina on August 5th, the Genoa-based outfit came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Knowing that they faced a stern test against Atalanta at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Head Coach Marco Giampaolo saw his side get hit with a deserved 2-0 loss on home soil. Signing off the 2021/22 campaign by winning just a pair of their final eight Serie A outings, they also hold a dreadful record against Monday’s opponents. Suffering a 3-1 loss when they last faced off against Juventus on March 12th, Sampdoria have lost each of their previous seven meetings against the Old Lady.

Team News

Both missing out on Sampdoria’s Serie A opener against Atalanta last weekend, the duo of Andrea Conti and Simone Trimboli are not expected to feature here.

The likes of Manuel De Luca, Valerio Verre and Fabio Quagliarella could all be in for a full recall on Monday night.

Juventus

As for the visitors, while Juventus might have signed off their pre-season preparations with a pair of sluggish displays, the Old Lady certainly came roaring back last weekend. Eventually breezing their way to a thumping 3-0 win at home against Sassuolo, the Italian heavyweights are desperate to mount a genuine title charge this time around. Just about scrapping a Champions League finish back in May, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri knows that stability is key for his star-studded squad. Landing that 3-1 victory when they made the trip to the Luigi Ferraris Stadium back in March, there is no doubt that fans around Turin will be calling on attacking talisman Dušan Vlahović to spearhead their charge. Putting in a Man of the Match display as the Serbian striker racked up a brace against Sassuolo last weekend, the ex-Fiorentina ace also notched himself 24 Serie A strikes last season.

Team News

Still dealing with injury issues, Juventus will once again be without the likes of Paul Pogba, Federico Chiesa and Wojciech Szczęsny on Monday night.

However, after bagging that brace against Sassuolo last weekend, Vlahović will once again lead Allegri’s charge alongside Argentina international Angel Di Maria.

Key Factors to Consider

    • When the two sides last faced off on March 12th, Juventus picked up a 3-1 victory at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
    • Monday’s guests have won each of their last seven meetings against the Blucerchiati.
    • Juventus have also bagged at least a pair of strikes in 11 of their previous 12 meetings against Sampdoria.
    • Allegri’s side have won each of their last three trips to Genoa by an aggregate score of 7-2.
    • Sampdoria have picked up just a pair of victories against the Old Lady since back in May 2013.

    Conclusion

Opening up the new campaign with a thumping 3-0 romp against Sassuolo on home soil, Juventus will be desperate to keep up that momentum here. Watching their attacking talisman also open his Serie A account with a brace last weekend, the Old Lady should be smelling a chance to lay down another marker on the road. Picking up a 2-1 victory when they last faced off against Sampdoria back in March, Allegri’s side hold a rather rampant record against the Blucerchiati. Including victories in each of their last seven straight meetings, it should also be noted that Juventus have won their previous three trips to Genoa by an aggregate score of 7-2.

    Verdict: Juventus win

    Best Odds: 3/4
