European football is in the rear view mirror for a month or two and domestic football is back on the line-up for a good while longer. We’re heading back over to the Premier League for what is bound to be an entertaining weekend of action up and down the nation, in what will hopefully prove to be slightly less divisive than the other issue sweeping the country this week. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at what should be a fascinating battle between Sheffield United and Aston Villa at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United
The Blades have had quite a remarkable start to the campaign and even that might be us putting it lightly. They’re in with a real shot of finishing in the top half, and there’s an outside chance they could even make a push for a spot in Europe. Chris Wilder has built a team that is legitimately playing some great football, and when you take one look at the passion within that club, it’s quite remarkable to think where they were just a few short years ago.
Team News
Mousset was forced off against Norwich and probably won’t feature here, with Sharp being tipped to replace him. Aside from that, there are no major injury concerns for the hosts.
Aston Villa
It looks like Aston Villa have had a questionable season up to this point based on where they are in the table, but in reality, they’re actually playing some good football. They’ve been unfortunate with a few of their results but they’re starting to piece things together, and if they can continue to gel and improve themselves as a cohesive unit, they could push further up the league. If they’re going to do that, though, they need to make a few improvements in the January transfer window.
Team News
Mings, Steer and Davis are all out of action with Targett also being a big doubt. McGinn could have a break from the starting XI as a result of playing every minute of the campaign so far.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting in the Championship back in February, Sheff United & Aston Villa drew 3-3.
- Sheff United have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
- Aston Villa have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Sheff United have scored 10 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
- Aston Villa have scored eight goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
Conclusion
It’s going to be an interesting clash of styles between two teams who, just over half a year ago, were competing in the Championship. Both have the potential to do some real damage in the Premier League this season but only one is doing something about it up to this point. We think Villa are going to make this a real dog fight, to the point where they share the points – which probably wouldn’t be the worst result for either club.
