There’s plenty of midweek action to sink your teeth into across English football this week but aside from that, there’s also a to digest over in Italy and, more specifically, Serie A. It’s been a wild start to the new season with many clubs exceeding expectations whereas others are faltering, and somewhere within that second bracket we’ve got Spezia and Juventus who will lock horns tomorrow night in what Allegri has called a “relegation six-pointer”.
Spezia
Spezia Calcio played in the top flight of Italian football for the first time in its history last season and now, the hope and aim is for them to avoid the dreaded second season syndrome. It’s a tough league to stay in once you’ve made your way up which goes without saying but based on what we’ve seen so far from them in the last few games, they’ll certainly be up for the challenge – even if it is going to be something of a grind.
Team News
Salcedo and Bourabia are both expected to feature for the hosts with Sena, Reca, Colley and Agudelo all spending time on the shelf through injury.
Juventus
Juventus lost their crown as the kings of Italy just a few months ago and it’s safe to say they haven’t exactly bounced back particularly well. They’re hoping to revert back to the status quo that got them to the dance but unfortunately, football doesn’t always work as a nostalgia act – and it also doesn’t help matters when you lose someone as valuable as Cristiano Ronaldo. The Old Lady are still a force, but it goes without saying that they’ve lost some of their mojo.
Team News
Jorge and Arthur are the only two names out injured for the visitors with de Light, Chiesa and Kean all being tipped to play a role in the starting XI.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in March, Juventus beat Spezia 3-0.
- Spezia have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Juventus have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Spezia have scored 10 goals and conceded 13 in their last six games.
- Juventus have scored 10 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
Conclusion
It’s all well and good to sit back and laugh at a club like Juve experiencing difficulties, but it can only last so long. They’ve had a poor start to the campaign and there’s no way around that but in a game like this, they should have more than enough in their locker to cause Spezia problems. We’re backing them to secure what looks like a narrow 2-1 win on paper, but should prove to be the kind of boost they need to kick on towards the race for the Champions League.
