Stoke City will continue to try and force their way out of the relegation zone, as they prepare to host high flyers Tottenham Hotspur in one of the Premier League’s 3 pm kick-offs this weekend. The Potters are coming off of a loss to Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal, meanwhile Mauricio Pochettino’s men couldn’t be on more of a high after seeing off the challenge of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Stoke City
Stoke’s situation looks more and more precarious with each passing day, as they remain three points away from safety. Their first-half performance against Arsenal was cause for optimism, but the way in which they fell apart will lead many to believe that this year could finally see them plummet into the Championship. Given the form of those around them, however, Paul Lambert has a chance of keeping them up so long as they can maintain a solid defensive base.
Team News
Charlie Adam is still suspended, meanwhile, Kurt Zouma could make a return from injury as well as Kevin Wimmer.
Tottenham Hotspur
While securing a spot in the top four is important, Tottenham Hotspur will know at this stage that they’re all but confirmed to be in the Champions League next season. The victory over Chelsea is going to do wonders for their confidence meanwhile the Blues could easily crumble, and Spurs still have an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United to prepare for. They’re quick, they’re organised, and they finally seem to be shaking off their ‘bottle job’ reputation.
Team News
Harry Kane will probably start for Spurs, but there is still uncertainty surrounding Toby Alderweireld.
Factors to Consider
- Tottenham won the reverse fixture back in December.
- Stoke haven’t won any of their last five games against Spurs, with their last victory coming in May 2015.
- Spurs have averaged nearly two goals a game away from home so far this season.
- Stoke’s Joe Allen has played more Premier League minutes this season than any Tottenham player.
- Tottenham have lost just once in their last 21 games in all competitions, and that was to Juventus.
Conclusion
Much like the game at the Emirates, Stoke will likely come out and try to frustrate Tottenham from the word go – but we just can’t see it paying off. Spurs have been on fire as of late and with the end of the season in sight, they’ll be putting their foot on the gas at the expense of Paul Lambert’s side. We’ll go for a 3-1 win for the visitors.
