Sunderland and Fulham will face each other in the FA Cup fourth-round replay this week. The match between the Championship club and Premier League outfit will be held at the Stadium of Light and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm UK time on Wednesday. The tie originally finished 1-1 at Craven Cottage in London last month.

Sunderland

Sunderland are one of the biggest clubs in England and are doing well at the moment. The Black Cats won promotion from League One to the Championship at the end of the season. And they are doing better than many would have expected them to in the second tier of English football and could end up winning promotion to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign.

The Black Cats are ninth in the Championship table at the moment with 42 points from 29 matches. Sunderland are only two points behind West Bromwich Albion, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final Championship playoff spot.

Sunderland will head into the FA Cup fourth-round replay against Fulham at home on the back of 1-1 draw with Millwall away from home in the Championship. It came after a 1-1 draw with Fulham in the FA Cup in London and followed a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light in the Championship.

Team News:

Corry Evans and Ross Stewart will not play again for Sunderland for the rest of the season due to injury. Lynden Gooch and Elliot Embleton are on the sidelines as well. Jack Clarke and Amad Diallo will start.

Fulham

Like Sunderland, Fulham are doing extremely well in the Premier League at the moment – in fact, better than anyone expected them to. The Cottagers won promotion from the Championship at the end of last season, and there is a distinct possibility that they could end up in the European places in the Premier League table this campaign.

Fulham are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 32 points from 22 matches. Marco Silva’s side are only a point off the European places and just eight points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United. Now, it is unlikely that the Cottagers will challenge for the UEFA Champions League places, but the London club could end up pushing for a UEFA Europa League spot.

The Cottagers will head into the FA Cup fourth-round replay against Sunderland on the back of a goalless draw with Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League. It came after a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at Craven Cottage in London in the FA Cup and followed a 1-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the London derby.

Team News:

There are no fresh injury problems for Fulham. Neeskens Kebano is still on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured Achilles. Aleksandar Mitrovic is likely to continue the line for the Cottagers, who could include second-choice goalkeeper Marek Rodak ahead of Bernd Leno in the starting lineup.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Fulham have scored 32 goals in 22 Premier League matches.
  • Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored 11 goals and given 1 assist in 19 matches for Fulham.
  • Sunderland have scored 42 goals in 29 Championship games.
  • Ross Stewart has scored 11 goals and given 3 assists in 15 games for Sunderland.
  • Sunderland had 17 shots against Fulham in London.

Conclusion

Sunderland did well against Fulham in the FA Cup, and the Black Cats will fancy their chances of winning the replay. Fulham will make it hard, but having home advantage will see Sunderland through.

Prediction: Sunderland to win 2-1
