Switzerland and Northern Ireland will face each other in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification – UEFA Group C this weekend. The match will be held at Stade de Geneve in Geneva and is scheduled to kick off at 7:45pm UK time on Saturday.

Switzerland

Switzerland are unlikely to win Group C and book their place in the 2022 World Cup finals automatically because of presence of Italy, but never say never. As things stand, Switzerland are second in the group with eight points from four matches, six points behind leaders Italy, who have played six games.

Murat Yakin’s side played out a goalless draw with Northern Ireland in their last 2022 World Cup qualifying game. It followed a goalless draw with Italy in Basel.

Team News:

Xherdan Shaqiri will start for Switzerland and will be a key figure in the team.

Northern Ireland

Just like Switzerland, Northern Ireland will know that winning the group ahead of Italy is going to be tough, but they are very much in with a shout at the moment. Ian Baraclough’s side are third in the group with five points from four matches, as many as nine points behind leaders Italy, who have played six games.

Northern Ireland will head into the match against Switzerland on the back of a goalless draw with the same team in Belfast. It followed a 4-1 hammering of Lithuania away from home in the qualifying campaign.

Team News:

Daniel Ballard, Conor Washington and Steven Davis should start.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Switzerland have scored four goals in four qualifying games.
  • Northern Ireland have scored four goals in four qualifying games.
  • Switzerland have conceded one goal in four qualifying matches.
  • Northern Ireland have conceded three goals in four qualifying matches.
  • Northern Ireland drew 0-0 with Switzerland in Belfast in September.

Conclusion

Switzerland have a better team and playing at home will also give them an advantage over Northern Ireland. A home win is the most likely outcome in the game.

Prediction: Switzerland to win 2-1

Best Odds: 8/1
