The Premier League is back for a rare selection of midweek games, as teams finally use up their all important games in hand. The game we’re going to be looking at today will be contested between two sides who, simply put, are in very different positions in the table. Spurs are currently attempting to cement their place in the top four, whereas Brighton have somehow slipped further into the relegation battle than anyone could’ve imagined. So, as you can probably tell, we’re excited to see what kind of encounter we get tonight.

Tottenham

It’s safe to say that Spurs fans probably already have one eye on the Champions League semi finals, and so they should. Their triumph over Manchester City will be remembered for many years to come, but there’s still so much more for them to accomplish this season. The real task for Mauricio Pochettino is going to be managing their resources, because even though they’re in the final four of Europe’s top club competition, their best way of getting back there next season is still going to be through the Premier League.

Team News

Lloris is set to return after missing out against City, with Rose, Trippier and Wanyama also being tipped to make appearances. Alli may not be risked due to his protective cast, whereas talisman Harry Kane is still out.

Brighton

Despite seeming like they were going to be pushing on towards a place in the top half earlier on in the campaign, Brighton now find themselves in quite the predicament. Cardiff are still considered to be the favourites to drop down into the Championship by many fans, but that doesn’t mean the Seagulls are safe – not even close. Their FA Cup semi final appearance was a nice moment a few weeks back, but they need to get their heads back into the game in the Premier League.

Team News

Knockaert is set to complete his three match ban in this one, with Davy Propper being ruled out after coming off against Wolves. Montoya and Bernardo, though, will hope to make an appearance.

Factors to Consider

  • In their last meeting back in September, Tottenham won 2-1.
  • Tottenham have won three and lost three of their last six games.
  • Brighton have drawn one and lost five of their last six games.
  • Tottenham have scored 11 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
  • Brighton haven’t scored in their last six games, and have conceded 12 goals.

Conclusion

Some fans would argue that the pressure of registering three points in this game will get to Tottenham, and while we certainly believe that’s a possibility, we don’t think it’s going to be enough for them to drop points. The Seagulls are going to scratch and claw all the way through until the end of the season, but there are games that are much, much more winnable for them than this one. We’re going with a convincing Tottenham victory as they continue to go in search of a place in that elusive top four.

Prediction: Tottenham win
