Following some dramatic Champions League action in midweek, the Premier League will be back in our lives this weekend as we edge closer and closer towards 2019. One of the games on the bill is Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley, in what will serve as a minor David vs Goliath battle. Both clubs are heading in very different directions and there’s no secret surrounding that, but as we know, these two clubs have a tendency to surprise us every now and again – both in a good sense and the bad.
Tottenham
The pieces finally seem to be falling into place for Tottenham this season, as they continue to go in search of success both domestically and in Europe. If they can add some strength in depth into their ranks then they could be a real force to be reckoned with at the top of the table, because right now, one or two injuries could really derail things for them. That’s not a prediction, either, because Spurs fans themselves have even noted that they want to wrap their top stars in cotton wool.
Team News
Tottenham put out their strongest starting XI in an attempt to dethrone Barca earlier in the week, so we’re expecting one or two changes. If they stick with the same team, then expect the likes of Son and potentially even Eriksen to be pulled off at the hour mark.
Burnley
Burnley shouldn’t be a team struggling to fend off the threat of relegation, but that’s the position they find themselves in. They’ve got more than enough talent in their ranks to steer clear and they certainly aren’t one of the worst teams in the division. Of course, that doesn’t mean much when it comes to the battle to avoid the drop, because anyone is capable of slipping through the trap door.
Team News
Chris Wood will attempt to rediscover his scoring form against Spurs, with Tarkowski and Mee likely being looked upon as the centre back duo that will be tasked with keeping Kane out of the game.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at Wembley Stadium.
- Tottenham have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Burnley have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Tottenham lead the overall head to head standings 45-40, with 27 draws
- In their last meeting in December 2017, Tottenham won 3-0.
Conclusion
There are a lot of reasons to believe Tottenham will be the ones who come away with the three points in this one, and we’re going to get behind that theory. Burnley are a shadow of their former selves from last season and it doesn’t really feel like they’ll have much to offer going forward against a side like Spurs. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are coming off the back of a morale boosting draw against Barcelona, and now, it feels like they’re starting to build some real momentum. 3-0 Spurs is our official prediction.
