As millions around the world continue to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, one slice of normality has remained the same – sport. We’re now in February and that means we’re going to be experiencing a whole lost of games coming at us thick and fast between now and May, which is especially true in the English Premier League. Today, we’re going to take a look at a fixture that can be viewed as a must win for both sides – Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea.
Tottenham
The Jose Mourinho effect is starting to wear off in quite a notable way for Tottenham Hotspur with fans wanting to see some positive football and, crucially, some goals. This doesn’t feel like a team that is going to be in the title hunt which we all sort of knew heading into the new year, but at this rate, there needs to be a serious discussion regarding their ability to even contend for a spot in the top four.
Team News
Ndombele is a fitness concern after limping off against Brighton, but the major problems rest in their confirmed absences with Lo Celso, Alli, Reguilon and, crucially, Harry Kane being ruled out through injury.
Chelsea
Some supporters still aren’t happy about Frank Lampard’s departure, but instead of dwelling on it, the time is now for the club to get behind the new gaffer and do everything in their power to salvage their season. They have so much ability residing in their squad that it seems crazy to think they aren’t playing to their full potential, but due to the mid-season change, we think that trend may actually continue.
Team News
With Kante recently recovering from injury, Tuchel has the joy of a fully fit squad to choose from for the short trip to North London. Giroud has been tipped to return to the starting XI with some believing that Alonso has earned the right to keep his place in the team after scoring against Burnley.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in November, Chelsea and Tottenham played out a 0-0 draw.
- Tottenham have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Chelsea have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored 14 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Chelsea have scored 10 goals three in their last six games.
We actually think both teams are going to be quite reserved in this game and because of that, fans shouldn’t be surprised if we see yet another goalless draw between these two juggernauts of English football. Spurs will be instructed to keep things as tight as possible at the back after a few bad results, whereas Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is just starting to settle into his new role – and the last thing he needs is a demoralising loss to local rivals. In terms of our prediction, we are, in fact, going to go for 0-0. Prediction: Draw Best Odds: 12/5 Bookmaker: 888sport
