The UEFA Champions League is back in our lives this week as we continue on through this chaotic schedule heading into the winter World Cup. There are plenty of fixtures left to be played with a whole lot to be settled in Europe’s top club competition and this week, the most unpredictable of groups – Group D – continues when Tottenham Hotspur play host to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur still aren’t quite playing the sort of world class football that would make them easier on the eye, but what they are doing is getting positive results, which is something Antonio Conte has always been able to do quite well. They’ve only lost once in the league and in the UCL, we’d argue they should be viewed as one of the favourites to qualify from this tricky group.
Team News
Moura, Tanganga and Kulusevski are all out through injury with Emerson expected to start on Wednesday.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Ever since winning the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt have reaffirmed their position as one of Germany’s most consistent sides in Europe. Alas, they have yet to find that same kind of joy in the Bundesliga on a regular basis, but they’ve got the defensive strength combined with the right mentality to really surprise a lot of people between now and the end of the season.
Team News
Onguene, Toure and Buta have a ll been ruled out but aside from that, the visitors should have a fully fit squad to choose from.
Factors to Consider
- Tottenham are 2nd in Group D whereas Frankfurt are 3rd, both with four points.
- Tottenham have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Frankfurt have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored 10 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Frankfurt have scored six goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Conclusion
These two sides have already showcased how evenly matched they are just a matter of days ago and we aren’t expecting too many fireworks from them this time around either. However, we do think there’s going to be a goal, and we think it’s going to come off the back of a rowdy atmosphere in North London with someone – most likely Harry Kane – poking home a late winner for Spurs.
