The Premier League is back once again this weekend as we continue to roll through the early stages of the campaign before we hit the winter break next month. There’s still a whole lot of football to be played before we stop for the World Cup and at this point, every point matters. Today, we’ll take a look at two familiar foes who collide for what feels like the 1,000th time – Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.
Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur may not play the prettiest brand of football but under the guidance of Antonio Conte, they’re doing what matters more than anything else – they’re getting results. It’s happening both in Europe and domestically and that’s the kind of progress which makes them feel like a professional outfit, something that could carry them far between now and the end of the season.
Team News
Emerson is still suspended after his red card against Arsenal with Kulusevski, Tanganga and Richarlison all being fitness doubts.
Everton
The Frank Lampard experiment has certainly had mixed results but for better or worse, it seems as if Everton are going to stick with the former midfielder. It’s less likely this time around that they’ll be dragged into a relegation battle but when you take a look at their squad, it feels more like they should be pushing for a top half finish and potentially even a strong run in the cup competitions.
Team News
Gordon is suspended after picking up five yellow cards with Godfrey, Townsend and Patterson being injured, whereas Mina and Holgate are fitness concerns.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in March, Tottenham beat Everton 5-0.
- Tottenham have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Everton have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored 11 goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
- Everton have scored six goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Conclusion
We don’t expect this one to be a classic, far from it, in fact. Spurs will likely make a few rotations due to the nature of their schedule but we still think they’ll be able to control this game, largely because there isn’t enough diversity in Everton’s shot selection and the way they play in the final third. We’re going to go for a 2-0 Tottenham win, but it’s hardly going to serve as the highlight of their run so far.
