Desperate to build off of their surprise victory over Manchester City in midweek, Newcastle will travel to Wembley on Saturday lunchtime.

Tottenham

Starting with the hosts, although Mauricio Pochettino still might be unable to call upon the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Spurs managed to pull off another late comeback on Wednesday night. Coming from behind to pick up consecutive 2-1 wins over Watford and Fulham in their last two Premier League outings, Tottenham will need to put their Cup misery behind them and focus on securing a top-four finish. With the chance to briefly leapfrog Manchester City to second spot in the table, Pochettino will be looking for the returning Son Heung-min to lead their charge this weekend. Finding the net in midweek after returning from the Asian Cup, the 26-year-old has now scored eight goals in his last eight domestic appearances. With some around Wembley believing that a shock title push could still be on the cards, Spurs should also be boosted by their recent record against the Magpies. Picking up a 2-1 win at St. James’ Park on the opening weekend, Saturday’s hosts have now won their last three top-flight matches against Newcastle.

Team News

Harry Kane (ankle) and Dele Alli (hamstring) remain out until early March, while Ben Davies (groin) is unavailable.

Heung-min Son – back with a crucial goal against Watford – suffered cramp late on against Watford, but should be fit to start.

Newcastle

As for Saturday’s visitors, coming off the back of a shocking 2-1 win over Manchester City in midweek, the mood in Rafa Benitez’s camp appears to be on a high. Now winning their last two Premier League matches on the bounce and breaking their long-standing transfer record to bring in Miguel Almiron, the Magpies will be desperate to extend their buffer over the relegation zone. Despite sitting 14th in the table, Newcastle hold just a five-point advantage and Benitez will know they’re far from safe. Now winning three of their last four matches across all competitions, the Geordies will know that they must improve on what is becoming a worrying record away from the North East. Still looking for a Premier League victory on their travles since a 1-0 win over Huddersfield on the 15th of December, this weekend’s visitors have now recorded just five away wins since September 2017.

Team News

Newcastle have plenty of injury concerns themselves with Jonjo Shelvey, Joselu, Ki Sung-yueng and Mo Diame all likely to be sidelined.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Tottenham have won their last three Premier League matches against Newcastle, including a 2-1 win on the opening weekend.
  • Heung-Min Son has eight goals in his last eight domestic appearances.
  • Newcastle have recorded just one clean sheet in their last six Premier League away matches.
  • Spurs have lost two of their last three Premier League matches at Wembley.
  • Tottenham have scored two or more goals in eight of their last nine against the Magpies.

Conclusion

Although Rafa Benitez will see this as a golden opportunity to take something off a weakened Spurs side, it is hard to see Tottenham failing to breach Newcastle defence at Wembley. With Son Heung-min now bagging eight in his last eight across all competitions, we’re backing him to find the net against a Magpies’ backline that have recorded just a single clean sheet in their last nine away matches.

Verdict: Heung-Min Son to score anytime

Best Odds: 11/10
