We’re into the month of May and we all know what that means – the end of the Premier League season is almost upon us. We’re into the final stretch and there’s still a whole lot left to be determined across the top flight landscape, from the title race all the way down to the relegation battle. Today, we’re going to take a look at a game between two teams in very different positions as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to host Sheffield United in the capital.
Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur have been through a major transition period lately with Jose Mourinho departing the club. At this stage the focus is likely going to be on what they can do to kick on and surge towards the top four, which is the right move, especially if they want to keep hold of Harry Kane beyond the summer. This squad has potential but they need to get their next managerial appointment right, and if they don’t, it’s easy to see them being left behind by the rest of English football’s elite.

Ben Davies is still out through injury whereas Doherty could be on the verge of a return after a spell on the shelf. Elsewhere, there are no other injury or suspension concerns for Spurs to worry about.
Sheffield United
It’s been a disastrous season for Sheffield United and there’s no way of getting around that fact, but even with their relegation being confirmed, they should still be looking at the remainder of their fixtures with a feeling of “we’ve got nothing to lose”. The summer transfer window is where they’ll really need to sharpen up if they’re serious about being promoted back to the Premier League, but for now, just put your best foot forward and see what happens.
Team News
Robinson and Berge are both fitness doubts for the trip to London with the following players being officially ruled out ahead of time: O’Connell, Sharp, McBurnie and Basham.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in January, Tottenham beat Sheff United 3-1.
- Tottenham have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games.
- Sheff United have won one and lost five of their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored nine goals and conceded nine in their last six games.
- Sheff United have scored two goals and conceded 13 in their last six games.
Even though Blades fans will want to pick up as many points as they can before the season comes to an end, we just don’t think this is the time or place for them to do so. Spurs are lethal when they want to be and Ryan Mason will want to prove why he was given this job in the first place. They need to get at Sheffield United from the word go and really intimidate them, which is what we think they’ll do, leading to a 2-0 victory in North London.
