Venezuela and Mexico will lock horns with each other in the 2024 Copa America this week. The Group B game between Fernando Batista’s side and Jaime Lozano’s team will be held at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. It is scheduled to kick off at 2am UK time on June 27.

Venezuela

Venezuela are a modest footballing nation in South America who would be happy just to qualify for major international competitions. La Vinotinto have never qualified for the World Cup and do not come even close to doing so.

Fernando Batista’s side are not expected to do much of note at the 2024 Copa America. Venezuela have been drawn against Mexico, Ecuador and Jamaica in Group B, and their aim has to be to end up in the top two.

Venezuela, though, have made a strong start to their 2024 Copa America campaign. They beat Ecuador 2-1 in their opening game. Jhonder Cadiz and Eduardo Bello scored the goals for Venezuela at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Team News:

Venezuela are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Mexico. Romo will be in goal and will have Gonzalez, Ferraresi, Osorio and Navarro in front of him in goal. Martinez and Herrera will be the two holding midfielders. Savarino, Casseres and Soteldo will play in attacking midfield. Rondon will lead the line for Venezuela.

Mexico

Mexico are a major footballing power in the Americas and have one of the best teams in North America. El Tri have played at 17 World Cups and have qualified for the competition in each of the editions since 1994. Mexico are also historically the most successful national team in CONCACAF, having won 12 confederation titles.

Jaime Lozano’s side will fancy their chances of winning the 2024 Copa America or at least progressing to the quarter-finals and beyond. Mexico have been drawn alongside Venezuela, Ecuador and Jamaica in Group B.

Mexico kicked off their 2024 Copa America Group B campaign with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica. Gerardo Arteaga scored the only goal of the match at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. It came in the 69th minute.

Team News:

Mexico are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Gonzalez will be in goal and will have Sanchez, Montes, Vasquez and Arteaga in front of him in defence. Romo and Chavez will be the two holding midfielders. Vega, Pineda and Quinones will be deployed in attacking midfield. Gimenez will lead the line for Mexico.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Venezuela have lost 2 of their last 6 matches in all competitions.
  • Venezuela have drawn 3 of their last 6 matches in all competitions.
  • Mexico have won 3 of their last 6 games in all competitions.
  • Mexico have lost 3 of their last 6 games in all competitions.
  • Salomon Rondon is Venezuela’s all-time top goalscorer with  41 goals.

Conclusion

Venezuela are a good team, but Mexico are better. They have one of the best and strongest teams at the 2024 Copa America, and it is unlikely that they will slip up against their South American rivals.
