We are just six days away from the end of the Premier League season, and we still don’t know who will be relegated alongside Norwich and who will qualify for both the Champions League and the Europa League. One of the games that will help us to clear things up when it comes to the relegation battle is the clash between Watford and Manchester City at Vicarage Road tomorrow night, as the Hornets go in search of a vital three points.
Watford
It’s safe to say that Watford have experienced some mixed emotions across the last few weeks, with a prime example of that being their three losses on the trot against Burnley, Southampton and Chelsea. They did manage to bounce back with consecutive wins against Norwich and Newcastle, but they wound up letting themselves down all over again in a 3-1 defeat to West Ham.
Team News
It remains to be seen how this team will be set up following the departure of Nigel Pearson, with the club being put in a bit of a ‘blank canvas’ position by his exit. One thing we do know is that they have a handful of injury absences in the form of Capoue, Deulofeu, Janmaat and Success.
Manchester City
The news of their successful appeal against their European ban was great, but the feeling of battering Premier League champions Liverpool 4-0 would’ve been even greater. Unfortunately, just three days later, they slipped up in a 1-0 loss to Southampton, but they were quick to get back on track with 5-0 wins over both Newcastle and Brighton. They were fortunate to edge past Bournemouth in the league, and then against Arsenal, they just couldn’t get going as they lost their FA Cup semi-final 2-0.
Team News
Guardiola will be eager to see a response from his side, with the expectation being that he’ll make a few changes across the board. Two men that he will definitely be without, though, are Bravo and Aguero, both of whom are still out through injury.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in September, Man City beat Watford 8-0.
- Watford have won two and lost four of their last six games.
- Man City have won four and lost two of their last six games.
- Watford have scored six goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.
- Man City have scored 16 goals and conceded four in their last six games.
Conclusion
With Watford not even having a manager and Manchester City just waiting until the Champions League gets underway again, we’re not expecting the most thrilling affair we’ve ever seen. City are more than capable of coasting to a win over the Hornets, especially given their defensive issues, and that’s exactly what we believe they’re going to do. If you’re on the lookout for something a bit more back and forth, then you should probably start looking ahead to the final game of the season on Sunday.
