The Premier League returns this weekend, with the game we’re looking at today being Watford vs West Ham United. Both teams had outside hopes of finishing in seventh place last season, but in the end, both were left feeling a bit underwhelmed. Now, they’ll be shooting for another top half finish, but both have failed to impress in the early stages of the campaign. As we all know, though, the Premier League is a marathon, not a sprint, and they’ve still got time to turn their fortunes around.
Watford
Aside from the fact that Javi Gracia was given another season with the Hornets, there hasn’t been much to scream and shout about in Watford as of late. They seem to have lost all momentum they created for themselves in their run to the FA Cup Final last season, which ended in them being battered by Manchester City at Wembley. Now, after being 90 minutes away from European football, they face the very real prospect of being dragged into a relegation battle over the next nine months.
Team News
Deeney is out due to a knee injury, Sarr is doubtful and will have to work his way back to full fitness, and Welbeck will be hoping to start after coming off the bench against Everton.
West Ham
West Ham United brought in a series of new faces during the summer transfer window, but it still feels like they’re a bit of a distance away from where they want to be. They haven’t started off the season how they would’ve wanted, but when you go head to head with Manchester City to kick things off, you’re always going to be facing an uphill battle. Either way, though, the Hammers will continue to be the kind of team that are difficult to put away.
Team News
Anderson, Noble and Haller will all hope to be available after missing the Brighton game. Ogbonna is set to keep his place in the starting XI ahead of Balbuena.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in May, West Ham beat Watford 4-1.
- Watford have lost both of their Premier League games so far.
- West Ham have drawn one and lost one of their Premier League games so far.
- Watford have scored no goals and conceded four this season.
- West Ham have scored one goal and conceded six this season.
Conclusion
West Ham are a talented side and they’ll come good eventually, but the Hornets always seem to be capable of pulling a big result out of the bag when they need it the most at Vicarage Road. We think they’ll push forward from the word go and won’t let up throughout the course of the entire game, which could lead to a bit of a goalfest. In the end, the hosts will get the three points, but we’re thinking this could be an outside bet for the game of the weekend in the Premier League.
