The Premier League returns this weekend, and as you can imagine, we’re pretty pumped up about it. There’s a series of really entertaining games on offer as we head into the final straight of the campaign, and there’s a lot left to fight for. The game that we’re going to be focusing on today will be contested between two sides that are battling it out for the right to play in the Europa League next season – and while that may not be a commodity to some teams in the top six, it certainly is for Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Watford
With their FA Cup Final against Manchester City being right around the corner, you could forgive Watford for being a little bit distracted. However, if they want to ensure that they qualify for the Europa League no matter what, then they absolutely need to do everything in their power to finish seventh. They’ve got the quality within their ranks to do so and they’ve remained consistent throughout the entire season, so all that is left for them to do is execute. Can lightning strike twice?
Team News
Troy Deeney will be suspended for this one and Jose Holebas will miss out through injury, with very few changes expected from the game against Southampton.
Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers finally burst back into life against Arsenal after a few poor results against Southampton and Brighton. We all know that they flourish when coming up against teams of perceived better quality than themselves, but in this instance, they just need to focus on taking one game at a time. Picking up six points in their next two games is going to be absolutely crucial in their surge for seventh, as they’ve got title chasers Liverpool waiting for them on the final day of the season.
Team News
Wolves have a clean bill of health, and after the result they had against Arsenal, they’re probably going to keep the same starting XI as they go in search of revenge against the Hornets at Vicarage Road.
Factors to Consider
- Watford beat Wolves 3-2 in their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley earlier this month.
- Watford have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Wolves have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Watford have scored 11 goals and conceded eight in their last six games.
Conclusion
This is going to be a fascinating game between, arguably, the two best teams in the Premier League outside of the top six. Watford are going to have all the confidence in the world and rightly so, but Wolves are out for revenge – and that’s a powerful thing when you’ve got a squad as they do. We can see the two sides sharing a few goals as well as some incredibly entertaining exchanges throughout the course of the game, but in the end, neither will be able to make that decisive breakthrough.
