The Bundesliga season still has a little bit longer to run than the Premier League, but make no mistake about it, we’re still at the business end of the campaign. Clubs up and down Germany’s top flight are starting to piece things together ahead of their final run in, with some playing for pride and some playing for a genuine reward. The game we’re going to be taking a look at today is Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund, as the visitors attempt to wrestle back control of the title race from Bayern Munich.

Werder Bremen

Back in the mid-noughties Bremen were widely considered to be one of the best teams in German football, but as time has gone on, that reputation seems to have diminished. They’ve been lingering towards the middle/bottom of the table for quite some time now, and this season has been no different. It seems as if they need a new fresh injection of momentum during the next few summer transfer windows, because at this moment in time, it just kind of feels like they’re making up the numbers.

Team News

Moisander is set to serve a one-match ban for this one with Eggestein being tipped to replace Rashica if he is unable to overcome his hip injury.

Borussia Dortmund

Despite losing control of the Bundesliga title race, Borussia Dortmund fans still seem to believe that there is a chance they could slip through and snatch the championship away from Bayern Munich. As unlikely as that may seem they certainly have the players within their squad to pull it off, and it’s just a case of requiring a helping hand from elsewhere. It’s no secret that they’re planning on staying busy during the summer, but even so, this crop of stars is more than capable of ending the season on a high.

Team News

Piszczek is tipped to return from injury to replace Wolf who is currently suspended.

Factors to Consider

  • The game will be played at Werder Bremen’s Weser-Stadion.
  • Bremen have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
  • Dortmund have won four and lost two of their last six games.
  • Bremen have scored eight goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
  • Dortmund have scored 13 goals and conceded 12 in their last six games.

Conclusion

Bremen are going to give Dortmund a solid game as they so often do, but when the title is on the line, teams like Dortmund just tend to step things up to the next level. We can see them struggling early on as their defensive problems continue to plague their hopes of actually finishing above Bayern, but in the end, we think they’ll take it to the final day of the season in order to give themselves one last chance of pushing their rivals all the way. Will they get the job done? Probably not, but it’ll be fun to see it all play out.

Prediction: Borussia Dortmund win
