As millions around the world continue to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, one slice of normality has remained the same – sport. We’re firmly in the February groove and that means we’re going to be experiencing a whole lost of games coming at us thick and fast between now and May, which is especially true in the English Premier League. Today, we’re going to take a look at a fixture between two teams with very different aspirations this season – West Bromwich Albion and Manchester United.
West Brom
West Bromwich Albion seem destined to suffer relegation back down to the Championship, even with a master like Sam Allardyce steering the ship. The games are running out and they’re desperately trying to secure points at any and all available turns, but it’s just not happening for them. They have to start thinking differently because if they don’t, they may even end up finishing below Sheffield United.
Team News
Diangana is a fitness doubt for this one, but outside of that, there are no injury problems for the hosts to worry about as Johnstone prepares to start against his former club.
Manchester United
While Manchester United’s title push may have gone up in flames in recent weeks, they do still feel like a team who could go on to achieve quite a bit in the months to come under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They’ve got the sort of spirit and belief in themselves that is always going to go over well with the fans, and even though there are bound to be a few bumps in the road ahead, they’re still good enough to secure a spot in the top four.
Team News
Pogba and Jones have both been ruled out through injury for this game whereas Baily is back in training and has a chance at starting on Sunday. Elsewhere, McTominay, Cavani and Fernandes were all rested during the week and should either start or feature in some form in the Black Country.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in November, Man United beat West Brom 1-0.
- West Brom have won one, drawn one and lost four of their last six games.
- Man United have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- West Brom have scored seven goals and conceded 15 in their last six games.
- Man United have scored 17 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
This isn’t exactly going to be the game of the season between two teams who are in very different spots in the league right now. It’s going to be nervy with very few attempts on goal as the Baggies attempt to hit United on the counter. Still, while they may give the Red Devils some problems, we don’t think it’ll be enough to prevent them from slipping further and further down into the relegation mire as the visitors secure an uninspiring 1-0 win.
