The Premier League is back in our lives once again this weekend as all 20 clubs attempt to build some momentum heading into another international break. Some are doing far better than others in the early stages of the new campaign, but when you consider how many months of the season are left, there’s still plenty of time for things to change. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the clash between relegation strugglers West Bromwich Albion and high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur.
West Brom
While the expectations were low for West Brom heading into their Premier League return, Slaven Bilic was probably hoping for slightly more than what we’ve seen so far from the club. They’re already looking like a team that is destined to battle it out in the bottom three for most of the season, and if they don’t pick up a positive result at some stage in the next few weeks, there’s a very real chance Bilic’s job could already be in trouble.
Team News
O’Shea is set to be assessed prior to the game on Sunday, but in terms of confirmed injuries, the only two confirmed absences are Field and Robson-Kanu, with Bilic not expected to many many changes from their loss to Fulham.
Tottenham
Nobody really knew what to expect when Jose Mourinho took charge in North London, but it does feel like he’s starting to settle into the job nicely. He still has to go through more than a few tests to make sure that’s definitely the case but if their recent documentary series taught us anything, it’s that Mourinho wants to be there and he wants to do anything he can to help them succeed.
Team News
Reguilon, Tanganga and Aurier all sat out the Europa League win during the week, and while all are still doubtful, Tottenham are most hopeful about Reguilon’s chances of returning to the team. Elsewhere, the only confirmed injury absentee for the trip to The Hawthorns is Lamela, with many expecting Alderweireld to be dropped.
Factors to Consider
- West Brom are 18th in the table whereas Tottenham are in 4th.
- West Brom have drawn four and lost two of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- West Brom have scored six goals and conceded 10 in their last six games.
- Tottenham have scored 12 goals and conceded six in their last six games.
Conclusion
While the Baggies may have a few players that are capable of causing Spurs some problems, we still don’t think they’ll be able to secure their first win of the season. Tottenham have shown that they’re capable of edging out wins even when they don’t play particularly well, and that’s the trait of a good team. We’re backing them to overcome some early adversity before winning the game late on, registering a 2-1 victory that will well and truly keep the in the top four hunt.
