The Premier League rolls on this week as two teams, West Ham United and Liverpool, finally catch up to the rest of the top flight by playing their game in hand. These two clubs are in very different positions right now, but this game should still serve as all the motivation they need. The Hammers want to try and escape the drop once again, whereas Liverpool know that they are within touching distance of winning their 19th league title, and their first Premier League crown.
West Ham
The David Moyes effect already seems to have worn off within a matter of weeks, which is hardly good news for a West Ham side that continues to play questionable football and pick up less than stellar results. If they keep this trend going over the course of the next few weeks then it’s going to be hard for them to reverse their fortunes, but if they can pull off the unthinkable by turning over Liverpool, it could serve as a huge moment for this football club.
Team News
With one of the thinnest squads in the league, fans won’t be happy to see that Fabianski, Fredericks, Wilshere, Yarmolenko and Anderson are all still out with Masuaku and Snodgrass being doubts for this one.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp knows that the coronation is coming for his squad, and it’s just a case of when as opposed to if. This should allow them to focus their energy on the FA Cup and Champions League, but truth be told, it still feels like Klopp isn’t willing to believe that they’re going to get the job done. He knows that there’s still some way to go before they can get out the banners and pop open the champagne, especially seeing as they’re over half way towards an unbeaten league campaign across all 38 games.
Team News
Klopp will bring his first teamers back into the mix with this one with Keita being tipped to feature, whereas Fabinho could be dropped after a poor showing against Shrewsbury. Elsewhere, Milner, Mane and Shaqiri are all doubts.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in February, Liverpool and West Ham drew 1-1.
- West Ham have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Liverpool have won five and drawn one of their last six games.
- West Ham have scored eight goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Liverpool have scored 10 goals and conceded three in their last six games.
Conclusion
West Ham just don’t have enough in their locker to cause Liverpool problems for an entire 90 minute game of football and that’s just the way it is. Liverpool are able to move the ball around with ease, control the pace and hit the Hammers as and when they see fit. We’re confident in saying that they’ll score early and establish their dominance over the hosts before going on to really put them to the sword – heading 19 points clear at the top of the table in the process.
