The Premier League is back in our lives this weekend, as the international break comes to an end – to the delight of the football world. There are a series of fascinating games ahead of us on the schedule over the course of the next few weeks and months, with one of the big ones this weekend being West Ham United vs Tottenham Hotspur. The two London rivals are in different positions in their respective campaigns, but at the same time, they both need a big win in order to really kick on ahead of the busy winter period.
West Ham
After a slow start West Ham United are on something of a roll, although the loss against Brighton did somewhat stop their momentum prior to the international break. The real test for them will be whether or not they can bounce back almost immediately, which seems like it’s not too bizarre of a possibility when you consider how they’ve fared against the bigger teams this season.
Team News
Javier Hernandez (virus) and Arthur Masuaku (ankle) are both on the verge of returning to the starting XI, whereas Robert Snodgrass will be available for selection in a big boost for the Hammers.
Tottenham
Tottenham are still in the mix for the top four at this early stage of the campaign, and some would even suggest that there’s a chance they could make a push for the title. While that probably won’t end up being the case they’re certainly capable of putting a strong run together, but a lot of that hinges on whether or not they can keep a fully fit squad up until January when they’ll be able to strengthen in the transfer window.
Team News
Jan Vertonghen will be out until December, meanwhile, there’s a great deal of speculation over whether or not Christian Eriksen will be available. Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama are both ruled out, and Dele Alli certainly won’t be making the starting XI.
Factors to Consider
- The game will be played at West Ham’s London Stadium.
- Tottenham lead West Ham 94-63 in the overall head to head standings with 52 draws.
- In their last meeting back in January, the two teams drew 1-1.
- West Ham have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
- Tottenham have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six games.
Conclusion
West Ham and Tottenham both play some exciting football when they’re on top form, and we’re hedging our bets that we’ll see an entertaining encounter this weekend. The Hammers will try and thrive off of the atmosphere from the crowd but it feels like Spurs aren’t going to allow them to settle, which could cause them problems early on. We think that Tottenham will score early on before doubling their lead midway through the second half, with West Ham scoring to set up a grandstand finish with a final score of 2-1 Spurs.
