Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers and Championship outfit Coventry City will lock horns with each other in the FA Cup this weekend. The quarter-final tie between Gary O’Neil’s side and Mark Robins’s team will be held at Molineux Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 12:15 pm UK time on Saturday.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers were expected to fight for survival in the Premier League this season. Julen Lopetegui left his role as the Wolves manager just days before the campaign started, and Gary O’Neil was appointed in his place. Under the former Bournemouth boss, Wolves have been superb.

The Wanderers are ninth in the Premier League table at the moment with 41 points from 28 matches. Wolves are as many as 20 points above the relegation zone and are not going to go down. They are only six points behind Manchester United and are above Chelsea and Newcastle United.

Wolves will head into the FA Cup tie against Coventry City on the back of a 2-1 victory over Fulham at home in the Premier League. It came after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the league which came after a 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in front of their fans in the FA Cup.

Team News:

Wolverhampton Wanderers are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Jose Sa will be in goal for the home team. Nelson Semedo, Santiago Bueno, Max Kilman and Rayan Aït-Nouri will be the four defenders. Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina will be the two holding midfielders. Pedro Neto, Pablo Sarabia and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde will be the three attacking midfielders. Nathan Fraser will lead the line for the Wanderers.

Coventry City

Coventry City are doing well in the Championship this season just like they did in the last campaign. They ended up fifth in the league table last season and played in the playoffs. There is a very good chance that Mark Robins’s side will do the same this time around.

The Sky Blues are eighth in the Championship table at the moment with 57 points from 37 matches. They are just a point behind Norwich City, who are sixth and occupy the final playoff spot. It is too late for Coventry to end up in the top two of the Championship table this season, but they could end up in the playoffs.

Coventry will head into the FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend on the back of a 2-1 victory over Watford away from home in the Championship. It came after a 5-0 victory over Rotherham United in the league which followed a 2-1 loss at the hands of West Bromwich Albion on the road in the Championship.

Team News:

Coventry City are likely to line up in a 3-4-1-2 formation. Bradley Collins will be in goal for the visiting team. Bobby Thomas, Joel Latibeaudiere and Liam Kitching will be the three defenders. Josh Eccles, Liam Kelly, Victor Torp and Jake Bidwell will be the four midfielders. Kasey Palmer will be the playmaker and will have Ellis Simms and Haji Wright ahead of him as the two centre-forwards.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers have won 12 Premier League matches so far this season.
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers have won 3 of their last five Premier League games.
  • Matheus Cunha has scored 11 goals and given 7 assists in 28 games in all competitions for Wolverhampton Wanderers this season.
  • Coventry City have lost 10 matches in the Championship this campaign.
  • Haji Wright has scored 14 goals and given 6 assists in 39 matches in all competitions for Coventry City this campaign.

Conclusion

Coventry City have done well in the FA Cup so far and will not be scared of taking the game to Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, Wolves are at home for the match and are a superior team. It is going to be a tight affair, and in the end, Wolves will come out on top.
