The Premier League returns this weekend with a sea of fascinating games, and one that’s flying under the radar is Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Burnley. Both of these clubs, who are founding members of the Football League dating back to 1888, have experienced mixed fortunes to kick off the campaign. It may seem as if they’re heading in two very different directions based on that, but not all is as it seems – especially when it comes to the top flight of English football.

Wolves

Under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves have become one of the most interesting clubs not only in England – but across Europe. The operation that has been put in place has encapsulated many fans for better or worse, and now, they’re starting to pick up the results they’ve been looking for on the pitch. They are gelling as a unit and while there’s still an awfully long way to go, it does feel like we’re in the early stages of seeing something special. Perhaps it won’t be on par with City’s rise, but there’s always a chance.

Team News

Raul Jimenez is a doubt after picking up an injury on international duty, meanwhile, Adama Traore will believe that now is the time for him to enter the starting XI after a string of impressive performances.

Burnley

Burnley are a great example of what you can build and create when nobody is watching, with their rise under Sean Dyche not getting the attention it deserved until the last twelve months or so. Lately, however, things have been a little bit more difficult, as the Clarets have suffered from their Europa League schedule and everything that comes with it. Now they don’t have that distraction, though, fans will be hoping that they can re-focus on the task at hand in the Premier League.

Team News

We can likely expect a handful of changes from Burnley in an attempt to get their season back on track, although Joe Hart will likely maintain his place in goal.

Factors to Consider

  • The game will be played at Molineux.
  • Wolves have won one, drawn two and lost one of their Premier League games.
  • Burnley have drawn one and lost three of their Premier League games.
  • Wolves lead 65-37 in the overall head to head standings, with 26 draws.
  • In their last meeting back in 2016, the two teams drew 1-1.

Conclusion

Wolverhampton Wanderers are slowly starting to become the team that everyone was expecting them to be at the start of the season, with their last few results against Manchester City and West Ham United showcasing both their resilience and determination. We think that we’re going to see their quality shine through above all else in this one, against a Burnley team in desperate need of a change. In terms of an official prediction, we’ll go for 2-0 Wolves, as they take another step towards solidifying their position as a legitimate Premier League side.

Prediction: Wolves win
