The Premier League returns this weekend with a series of entertaining and somewhat unpredictable games, which is just the way we like it. The majority of top players within the division are going to be returning from international break, which can mean a lot of different things for a lot of different clubs. Some will have to deal with a few injuries and others will just want to mix things up, but either way, we’re confident in saying that we’re going to get some absolute crackers over the next few days: and that includes Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Chelsea.
Wolves
Learning how to balance the domestic game with European football is always a tricky realignment, and Wolves are certainly starting to feel it after going four games without a win to start off their Premier League season. While that isn’t the end of the world by any stretch of the imagination, they need to start putting some points on the board in order to convince the masses that they’re capable of managing the two competitions. If they don’t, then the worry could start to grow amongst the fanbase.
Team News
Boly is suspended with Saiss being a doubt, meaning Vallejo could feature here. Doherty is also still injured with Moutinho and Jota being tipped to return.
Chelsea
Chelsea’s start to the new campaign under Frank Lampard has hardly been ideal, with just one win in their opening four Premier League fixtures. Still, even with that being the case, there’s some potential within their ranks and they seem to have a much more ‘likeable’ squad than they have done in years gone by. That isn’t going to mean a whole lot if they are unable to pick up results, but once they start to gel as a cohesive unit, we could start to see some big things from the Blues.
Team News
Emerson will be assessed before kick off with Loftus-Cheek, James and Hudson-Odoi all missing out. Kovacic has an Achilles issue but should still be able to start the game.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in March, Wolves and Chelsea drew 1-1.
- Wolves have drawn three and lost one of their Premier League games this season.
- Chelsea have won one, drawn two and lost one of their Premier League games this season.
- Wolves have scored four goals and conceded five in the PL this season.
- Chelsea have scored six goals and conceded nine in the PL this season.
Conclusion
This game is quite clearly going to have some goals littered throughout the ninety minutes, and that can only be a good thing. Wolverhampton Wanderers are a tough team to beat especially at Molineux, but we just think this will be the game that sees the Blues finally click into place. It’s not like they don’t have talented individuals within their ranks, and now that Frank Lampard has had time over the international break to assess his options, we think this is the right moment for them to announce themselves to the rest of the Premier League.
