As millions around the world continue to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, one slice of normality has remained the same – sport. We’re now in February and that means we’re going to be experiencing a whole lost of games coming at us thick and fast between now and May, which is especially true in the English Premier League. Today, we’re going to take a look at a fixture that has the potential to produce some real fireworks – Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Leicester City.
Wolves
The win over Arsenal seems to have eased some of the pressure currently on the shoulders of Nuno Espirito Santo, but if they want to ensure they aren’t going to be in the depths of a relegation battle, they need to keep on picking up some wins until they reach the golden 40-point mark. They’ve got the players necessary to do it but many still question whether they, as a team, are playing to their full potential.
Team News
Saiss is a fitness doubt for this one but there are still a few injury absences for Wolves that they’ll need to deal with, including Jonny, Jimenez, Marcal and Ait-Nouri.
Leicester
Leicester City should be poised for another push to get into the UEFA Champions League but as we all know, they have a tendency to drop the ball late on in the campaign. Now that we’re in February we should be getting a pretty good idea as to what the direction of travel is for all teams at the top, but the Foxes are the sort of enigma that will probably keep everyone guessing for a few more months.
Team News
Castagne, Vardy and Ndidi are all fitness doubts with Rodgers being confident Vardy and Ndidi will be able to return. Elsewhere, Fofana, Morgan and Praet have all been ruled out through injury.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in November, Leicester beat Wolves 1-0.
- Wolves have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six games.
- Leicester have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- Wolves have scored six goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Leicester have scored 11 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Despite everything we’ve seen from both clubs so far this season, we actually think Wolves are going to be the ones to pick up a win here – but it isn’t going to be pretty. They’re still going to play in a pretty negative manner, which is bound to infuriate their loyal fanbase, but that isn’t going to matter much with Leicester still trying to avoid the same drop in form they had last season. We’re going to say 2-1 Wolves as our official prediction as this wacky campaign keeps us guessing, but don’t be surprised if this is one of those games that goes right down to the wire with a late winner coming into play.
