Following a weekend of mourning after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Premier League football is set to resume (almost) in full over the course of the next few days. We’re set to see the final set of fixtures prior to the last international break before the World Cup, and it’s safe to say there are a few belters involved – including what should be an intriguing contest between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City at Molineux.
Wolves
While they may have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, Wolves have also scored the fewest goals. It’s not like there isn’t an incredible amount of talent within the club’s ranks because there is, but there are also question marks over their killer instinct in front of goal – which is probably why former Chelsea star Diego Costa has been brought into the Black Country.
Team News
Kalajdzic is out for the foreseeable future due to an ACL injury, Chiquinho is out, and Costa’s fitness will be assessed in advance.
Manchester City
There are definitely wrinkles in Manchester City’s play this season thanks to just how many goals they’re conceding, but in equal measure, they look absolutely terrifying going forward and continue to find new and different ways to win. That’s saying a lot about their grit and overall mentality, and it’s a testament to what Pep Guardiola is building – which, they’ll hope, finally leads them to European glory.
Team News
Laporte and Walker are both doubts to start due to niggles with Mahrez and Grealish being tipped to drop to the bench.
Factors to Consider
- Man City lead Wolves 4-2 in their last six Premier League encounters.
- Wolves have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
- Man City have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
- Wolves have scored four goals and conceded three in their last six games.
- Man City have scored 20 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
Conclusion
Wolves have done a good job of neutralising City in their last few meetings but in this instance, we just think the visitors are going to be too strong for them. It’ll be a tense opening 15 minutes but once things have settled and the hosts start to open up a bit more, Pep’s men will exploit that. Haaland will get on the scoresheet, because of course he will, and the champions will run out 3-0 winners.
