As the Premier League starts to feel like a regular part of our weekend schedule once again, it’s interesting to note the dynamic between some of the teams that’ll be squaring off in the top flight this season. Take Wolves and Manchester City as an example: both clubs are known for having very wealthy owners who have assisted them in reaching that next level, and yet, City are now and will be the superior team in many people’s eyes – but the question remains as to just how long that’ll last?

Wolves

A lot of pundits fell into the trap of overestimating what Wolves are capable of doing this season, courtesy of their impressive work in the summer transfer window. There are signs of greatness in their squad but they need to be given the necessary time to function properly in Nuno’s desired setup, meaning that this may not be the ideal time for them to come up against Manchester City. With the Molineux crowd behind them anything is possible, though, as we saw during their last tenure in the Premier League.

Team News

Adama Traore could start after impressing against Leicester, with new signing Dendoncker being expected to play some kind of role in this one. In midfield, Neves & Moutinho will be called upon as vital pieces of the puzzle to unlocking City’s stranglehold in that area of the pitch.

Manchester City

There’s a lot to be said about how calm and composed City have seemed in the early stages of this season, as if they’re just ‘expecting’ to walk through the rest of the league en-route to another Premier League title. Obviously, it won’t be quite that easy, but in the same vein as France at the World Cup, it still feels like we haven’t seen them hit that next level yet. With no European competition to worry about just yet, Pep Guardiola can focus on helping his team build a healthy lead at the top of the table.

Team News

Mahrez and Sterling are both hoping to return to the starting XI, with Benjamin Mendy continuing to be one of the highlights of City’s early season form. Jesus will likely start alongside Aguero, who is coming off the back of a tremendous hat-trick performance against the Terriers.

Factors to Consider

  • The game will be played at Molineux.
  • Man City lead 47-46 in the overall head to head rankings.
  • In their last game back in October, the two sides drew 0-0 in the League Cup with City winning on penalties.
  • Wolves have one point from their first two games – 2-2 vs Everton, 0-2 vs Leicester.
  • Man City have six points from their first two games – 2-0 vs Arsenal, 6-1 vs Huddersfield.

Conclusion

It’s no secret that Manchester City are going to come at Wolves with everything they’ve got, because that’s their natural state of being. They have the ability to pick apart literally any team that they so desire, and they make it seem way, way too easy. Wolves have quality but they don’t seem to know how to work as a unit just yet, which makes sense, because it takes time to gel in the Premier League. We think the home side will grow into the game but in the end, City will come away with a 2-1 victory.
