Following on from a whole lot of cup action, it’s time to return to the Premier League this weekend for a full slate of fixtures. We’re heading into the depths of January now and while we’re usually further along in the campaign by this point, the winter break means there is plenty of catching up to do. Today, we’ll be previewing what should be an enticing relegation six-pointer between Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United at Molineux.
Wolves
The introduction of Julen Lopetegui has been vital for this club. They were in vital need of salvation after starting the season in a bit of turmoil, and now, things are starting to look slightly brighter. Alas, they still find themselves in the bottom three, and all the great players in the world won’t be able to help them if they can’t start to come together and build some momentum with a tough run of games ahead.
Team News
Chiquinho, Kalajdzic, Neto and Traore all still remain sidelined through injury for J-Lo’s squad.
West Ham
West Ham United are a club in the knockout stage of European competition for the second straight season. However, in the Premier League, they’re struggling – and that’s us putting it lightly. David Moyes’ position as manager is likely to be in serious jeopardy if this continues, even though you could make the argument they wouldn’t have gotten to where they are today without him in charge.
Team News
Coufal and Cornet are both still on the shelf through injury. Elsewhere, Zouma, Scamacca, Lanzini and Areola are fitness concerns.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in October, West Ham beat Wolves 2-0.
- Wolves have won two, drawn three and lost one of their last six games.
- West Ham have won one, drawn two and lost three of their last six games.
- Wolves have scored eight goals and conceded six in their last six games.
- West Ham have scored six goals and conceded 11 in their last six games.
Conclusion
Given all of the frustration Wolves have built up in the last week or so, we’d say this game is set up perfectly for them to make a real statement against a struggling Hammers side. While there’s bound to be some nervous energy from the hosts given their tendency to concede, we do believe this is the fixture where it’ll all come together as they grind out a vitally important 2-0 win over the boys from London.
