Birmingham City snatched a last-minute winner to beat Blackpool and move out of the relegation zone with their first away win of the season.
Defender Scott Dann fired in from eight yards to steal a crucial 2-1 victory for Alex McLeish’s side, though it looked like Birmingham might miss out on the three points after DJ Campbell levelled Alexander Hleb’s first-half opener.
It was a disappointing return to Bloomfield Road for the Tangerines, who have performed so well on the road, but failed in their first game at home for more than six weeks.
Birmingham threatened to take the lead from kick-off with three good chances in the first ten minutes. The closest came from an unmarked Cameron Jerome, who with only the goalkeeper to beat, hit his shot well wide.
The first goal came following a defensive error from Stephen Crainey. Hemmed in at the left corner, he tried to pass across his penalty area, but former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Hleb nipped in and fired under Richard Kingson.
Blackpool could have equalised immediately when Charlie Adam’s dangerous free-kick found Matt Phillips but his flying header went wide.
Ian Holloway’s team picked up the momentum in the second half and playmaker Adam was a constant threat to the visitors.
Goalkeeper Ben Foster made a sprawling save from a 22-yard shot from the Scot before Luke Varney spooned the rebound over the bar. Shortly afterwards, Adam fed Campbell but his shot was comfortably saved.
However, Campbell capitalised on his next chance when he fired in a volley from a back-post header by Gary Fletcher-Taylor to bring Blackpool level.
Adam was again denied a deserved goal after making another blistering run from midfield and hitting the woodwork.
But Birmingham clinched the three points in the 90th minute when central defender Dann pounced on a header from Roger Johnson.
