Grant Holt came off the bench to snare a 1-1 draw for Norwich in a thrilling Premier League encounter against Liverpool at Anfield.

Craig Bellamy opened the scoring for Liverpool on the cusp of half-time, but the hosts could not find a decisive blow and were made to pay when Holt’s 60th minute intervention ensured a share of the spoils.

In a nervous start for the visitors, Luis Suarez turned on the edge of the area and flashed a low shot slightly wide of the post.

The visitors made their first excursion forward on the 20-minute mark, with Steve Morison rising to head over from a corner.

The move seemed to signal the end of Liverpool’s dominating opening period, with Kenny Dalglish’s men losing their potency somewhat in the final third, though maintaining overwhelming possession.

In the 40th minute, Stewart Downing lofted a high ball from the right towards the far post, but Suarez’s header failed to trouble John Ruddy in the Norwich goal.

Just when Liverpool looked to be going into half-time with nothing to show for their superiority, Bellamy profited from a ricochet, giving him space in the area for a shot that took a significant deflection off Marc Tierney and bobbed into the net.

Suarez was again in the thick of the action after the interval, but the Reds striker saw his shot take a deflection from Russell Martin’s last-minute tackle before hitting the post.

With Liverpool again on top, Norwich boss Paul Lambert brought Holt into the mix, and the tactical change paid off almost immediately.

Anthony Pilkington delivered an excellent cross from the right and Holt remained calm to bury a fine header into the net.

With the hosts in shock, an invigorated Norwich came forward again as Holt’s header, aimed for the far post, was palmed away strongly by Pepe Reina.

Liverpool pushed back with the impressive Suarez outmuscling Leon Barnett to shoot once more, but his strike failed to find the goal.

Suarez then once again bamboozled Barnett to free himself in the area but his angle was too tight to be of real threat.

A final chance arrived deep into stoppage time through the ever-threatening Suarez, but his well-timed volley was superbly saved by Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy.
