Striker Carlos Tevez produced another talking point as Manchester City moved into second spot two points behind arch-rivals United.

Tevez stuck a dummy in his mouth to celebrate scoring his team’s second goal after just five minutes as City collected a comfortable win over Newcastle United.

The visitors had taken took the lead after 70 seconds and never looked back.

Tim Krul’s poor clearance was gathered up by Tevez.

He played in Gareth Barry who added insult to injury for Krul by sliding the ball between the advancing goalkeeper’s legs.

City made it 2-0 minutes later after Tevez burst out of midfield and passed the ball out wide to James Milner.

The winger’s whipped cross found Tevez who had continued his run into the box and the Argentinian stroked a left foot shot into the roof of the net.

The home side searched for a way back into the game, and came closest through Andy Carroll. The young striker met a Wayne Routledge cross but could only direct his strong header at Joe Hart.

The second half didn’t start quite as quickly as the first but Newcastle looked to have battled their way back into the game with Carroll’s 11th goal of the season, in the 72nd minute.

The striker rose above everyone to power Joey Barton’s corner past Hart.

Nolan should have brought the home side level but could only stab his close range effort wide of the post after good work from substitute Nile Ranger.

Minutes later Newcastle paid the ultimate price, as Tevez sealed the win.

His shot from eight yards out deflected off both Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini before finding the back of the net.
