Premier League predictions

Title decider

Saturday 7th May

  • Aston Villa v Wigan
  • Villa are pretty much safe whilst Wigan are still in the bottom three and fighting for their lives. It has to be said that Villa haven’t looked great in their home draw with Stoke or defeat at West Brom and although they have edged their way to safety, they are still nowhere the team they should be.

Wigan threw away a great position to lose at Sunderland and then battled to a point against Everton. They know that things are so tight that just one win could be enough. They’ll be going all out to get it here, but I think a point will be all they get.

    Soccernews prediction: 1-1

  • Bolton v Sunderland
  • This is a game between two teams who had a great first half of the season but are now falling away alamingly and can’t wait until the season ends. In fact, if they were both playing other teams you would have to predict that they would lose. As they can’t both lose, I can only predict a draw!

    Soccernews prediction: 1-1

  • Everton v Manchester City
  • Manchester City look nailed on for a Champions League place now, but they certainly won’t have it easy against an Everton side who are now looking as good as they should be. Defeat at Manchjester United is their only loss in their last nine league games and they are a very difficult side to beat.

I fancy Everton might just make City put their champagne on ice for the time being.

    Soccernews prediction: 2-1

  • Newcastle v Birmingham
  • This is another game between two teams in poor form. Newcastle have just about done enough to be safe, but they are woefully short of fire power. Birmingham are probably OK, but only four points seperate them from the drop zone. They will be more than happy with a point here and because Newcastle don’t look threatening, I think they’ll probably get one.

    Soccernews prediction: 0-0

  • Tottenham v Blackpool
  • With home draws against Stoke and Newcastle, Blackpool have somehow managed to escape the bottom three but only on goal difference and only by one goal. It seems that everyone wants them to stay up because of their attacking spirit and manager Ian Holloway. However, they face a tough game today and if they need to win their last game to stay up, they are at Old Trafford!

Tottenham have faded away after a great effort, but they are far too strong for Blackpool and will maintain an outside chance of a top four finish by winning this one easily.

    Soccernews prediction: 3-1

  • West Ham v Blackburn
  • This is a classic six-pointer. West Ham need to win or they will probably go down. Blackburn got a crucial win last week, but defeat here would leave them still in deep trouble. I think that West Ham, with Scott Parker back from injury and a raucous, passionate crowd behind them, will beat what is a poor Blackburn team and keep the relegation battle open and exciting.

    Soccernews prediction: 2-0

    Sunday 8th May

  • Manchester United v Chelsea
  • It doesn’t get bigger than this. To all intents and purposes this game is a title decider. A win or draw for Manchester United and the title will be so nearly theirs. A win for Chelsea and they take the lead on goal difference and you couldn’t see them throwing that away.

If the game was at Chelsea you would have to fancy them, but United have been fantastic at home all season and with a rested team, they should be capable of getting the point they need. With Chelsea needing to win the game, I think United might just find the space to nick it.

    Soccernews prediction: 1-0

  • Stoke v Arsenal
  • Nobody likes going to Stoke and Arsenal probably like it less than anyone else. Stoke are safe in mid-table and have had another brilliant season. Arsenal’s title dream is almost over and they have had another frustrating season. Arsenal are the better side, but Stoke will be relishing the game.

Will class win the day? I think it probably will.

    Soccernews prediction: 1-2

  • Wolves v West Brom
  • A few weeks ago, this midlands derby would have been massive for both teams. Since then though, Roy Hodgson has skillfully guided West Brom to safety and beyond and now local pride is all they have to play for. Wolves are still in deep trouble in the bottom three and know this is a game they have to win.

Wolvew will give it everything, but West Brom are now organised and effective. I can’t see Wolves winning but a point will keep them alive.

    Soccernews prediction: 1-1

    Monday 9th May

  • Fulham v Liverpool
  • These twoo teams won’t want the season to end as they are both producing form that would have had them at the top of the table if they had started better. They are both unrecognisable from the teams playing before Christmas.

Fulham are difficult to beat but Liverpool are rampant at the moment and I think they’ll have too much.

    Soccernews prediction: 1-2
