Arsenal v Bolton
Two unbeaten sides go head to head at the Emirates. Arsenal have two wins and a draw to their name whilst Bolton have a win and two draws. Sounds like this one should be pretty close then.
No chance! As well as Owen Coyle has got Bolton organised, Arsenal will be way too good for them.
Soccernews prediction: 3-0
Everton v Manchester United
This game will be all about the reception Wayne Rooney is likely to get from the fans who used to hero-worship him. It is six years since he walked out of Goodison Park and into Old Trafford but the Everton fans have long memories. The fun they are going to have at Rooney’s expense after the newspaper stories about him doesn’t bare thinking about. I just hope it doesn’t go too far.
As for the football, United are unbeaten whilst Everton have just picked up the one point. I expect those two things to remain the same after this one.
Soccernews prediction: 0-2
Fulham v Wolves
Wolves have picked up five points from their three games so far and have had a better start than even they would have expected. Fulham are unbeaten as well, but they are yet to win. They will be looking to put that right here.
Fulham are a tough nut to crack at home and I fear that Wolves have over-performed so far.
Soccernews prediction: 2-0
Manchester City v Blackburn
A local derby up in the North West sees a team with more money than they know what to do with take on a team desperate for a cash injection. Only one point separates the two teams after three games but that is unlikely to remain the case for long. In fact, the gap will be up to four points by the end of this game.
Soccernews prediction: 3-1
Newcastle v Blackpool
If you had offered both Newcastle and Blackpool four points from their opening three games they would have snatched your hand off. That is where they find themselves and they must be delighted.
Newcastle look like the real deal and in their thrashing of Aston Villa looked anything like a side who might struggle. Whatever Blackpool have done, you just can’t see anything other than struggle for them. I think today may prove to be another wake up call.
Soccernews prediction: 3-0
West Brom v Tottenham
West Brom were stuffed on the opening day at Chelsea but since then have beaten Sunderland and only narrowly lost at Anfield. They look like a tidy side who may just stay up come the end of the season.
Tottenham were going great guns until they somehow managed to lose at home to Wigan. Now they have lost Michael Dawson and Jermain Defoe to injuries picked up with England and may be facing an early pivotal point in their season. I think they’ll win here to keep things on track.
Soccernews prediction: 1-2
West Ham v Chelsea
No points from three games and some pretty terrible performances. The best thing they could now do would be to get a fantastic, confidence boosting win against the champions. That would be the best thing, but they have got no chance. I’m afraid it will be no points from four games for Avram’s men.
Chelsea look as though they will be difficult to stop. West Ham certainly won’t manage it.
Soccernews prediction: 0-3
Wigan v Sunderland
Wigan rescued their manager’s job and some pride for themselves when they won at Tottenham. In order for that result to mean anything they need to follow it up with another one here.
Sunderland could still go either way. They might be looking for a top half finish or they could easily get dragged into the scrap at the bottom.
I don’t think either side will be too disappointed with a point today.
Soccernews prediction: 1-1
SUNDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER
Birmingham v Liverpool
To the delight of the Birmingham fans they seem to have picked up this season where they left off last. To slightly less delight of the Liverpool fans, they seem to have done the same thing.
This is a big game for Roy Hodgson as he aims to establish himself at Anfield. I think he will get a point and will probably settle for that.
Soccernews prediction: 1-1
MONDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER
Stoke v Aston Villa
Stoke haven’t started well and may be about to introduce a new phenomena of ‘third season syndrome’. They haven’t picked up a point yet and will be desperate to get something out of this.
Gerard Houllier has now taken the reins at Villa and he has inherited a decent side. Don’t forget, they have won the other two games they have played apart from the humiliation at Newcastle.
I think Gerard will get off to a flying start and the panic button might have to come out at Stoke.
