This is a battle between two of the pretenders for the top four. At the moment Tottenham are looking the more likely to make the big breakthrough sitting in fourth place. Villa are just one place and three points behind.
Tottenham had a remarkable 9-1 win over Wigan last week and must be about as full of confidence as it is possible to be.
Villa had a 5-1 win in their last home game but could only manage a draw at Burnley last time out.
The safest bet here looks to be a score draw.
SoccerNews prediction: 1-1
A mid-table battle between two pretty dour sides. Blackburn are getting better but their 3-0 defeat at Fulham in midweek was something of a setback.
Stoke are still better at home than they are away as defeat at Hull on their last travels showed.
Blackburn are OK at home and I expect them to give Big Sam something to cheer him up as he recovers from his minor heart surgery.
SoccerNews prediction: 2-1
Fulham are getting better and Bolton are getting worse. Roy Hodgson is admired by all at Fulham and they hope to get him on a long term deal. Gary Megson is admired by…well, I quite like him.
Fulham were not great in their 3-0 win over Blackburn on Wednesday but that is the sign of a good side. They look good for a top half finish again.
Bolton were terrible in their 2-0 defeat to Blackburn and they look as though they have a relegation battle ahead.
SoccerNews prediction: 2-0
Mark Hughes’ men can’t stop drawing at the moment and they need a win to send a message that they are genuine top four contenders. They’ll never have a better chance than this. If they don’t win this one then they can’t claim to be serious.
Hull have had a couple of decent results to help to keep Phil Brown employed, but I fear for them at the scene of their manager’s famous public half-time rant.
SoccerNews prediction: 3-0
Bottom of the table, just seven points from thirteen games and the manager has been sacked. In that terrible situation what team would you most like to come visiting you?
Pompey will be absolutely thrilled to get anything from this one.
United are still stumbling along but they will surely have too much for Portsmouth. They generally don’t enjoy their trips to Fratton Park, but I suspect they might enjoy this one.
SoccerNews prediction: 0-2
The battle of the claret and blues. Before the season started most people would have expected West Ham to be in mid-table and Burnley to be struggling.
As it turns out, things are the other way around and Burnley showed in their draw at Manchester City that they can now perform away as well as at home.
There have been some signs of a revival at Upton Park and they will see this as a great chance to pick up three points.
I expect Burnley to collect their second away point.
SoccerNews prediction: 1-1
The humiliation suffered by Wigan last week at Tottenham will have seriously dented their confidence but will surely inspire them to perform better this week.
Sunderland are still riding high in eighth place and Steve Bruce will feel pretty confident on this return to his old club. Their 1-0 win against Arsenal last week was impressive and ended a slightly concerning run.
I would expect Wigan to show enough fight and passion to earn a point in front of their fans.
SoccerNews prediction: 1-1
Sunday 29th November
The game of the weekend sees top of the table Chelsea visit third placed Arsenal. Both teams had wins in Europe in midweek and both teams will be pretty satisfied with their season so far.
Arsenal slipped up at Sunderland last week but prior to that had been looking pretty invincible.
Chelsea go from strength to strength and a win here would make them even firmer favourites for the title. I think they’ll get it.
SoccerNews prediction: 0-1
The Merseyside derby sees both teams go into the game in fairly low mood.
Liverpool won in Europe in midweek but it wasn’t enough to stop them tumbling out of the champions league. Their indifferent league form has also seen them slump to what is for them, a very lowly seventh place.
Everton are having a nightmare. Their 3-2 defeat at Hull on Wednesday showed just how far they have fallen. Sitting just four points above the drop zone, there is a very real danger that they could find themselves in a relegation scrap. I don’t expect their neighbours to do them any favours.
SoccerNews prediction: 0-2
Two of the promoted sides come up against each other here.
Wolves are struggling and find themselves second from bottom after conceding four in their last two games against Chelsea and Arsenal.
Whilst Birmingham are no Chelsea or Arsenal they are going reasonably well and had a good win over Fulham last time out. They will inflict more misery on Mick McCarthy and his men.
SoccerNews prediction: 0-1
