Premier League preview: Arsenal v Wolves

Wolves will be looking for their second big scalp in a row when they travel to London to face Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

Mick McCarthy’s side pulled off the biggest upset of the season last weekend when they inflicted a first loss of the season on league-leaders Manchester United at Molineux.

The 2-1 win over United lifted Wolves off the bottom of the table, albeit on goal difference, and they will be looking to put further space between them and the foot of the table when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on the Gunners.

And although 18 places separate the sides on the Premier League table, midfielder Jamie O’Hara said the upset victory over United had given Wolves the belief they could beat anybody.

“I don’t see why we can’t go there and get a result,” O’Hara said. “If we stick together and work hard as a team we can take something from the game. With the team that we’ve got we have a chance against anyone.”

“We’ve got to believe in ourselves and if we’ve got the confidence in our ability then there’s no reason why we can’t get results.”

“That’s what we have to do now if we want to get out of trouble, is believe that we can get results anywhere and I think that we can.”

However, history would suggest Wolves will be up against it come Saturday, having not taken a single point against Arsenal since 1982.

Mick McCarthy’s side have not won two games in a row since December 2009, but will be buoyed by their most recent result at the Emirates – a 1-0 loss via a 90th minute Nicklas Bendtner strike in April last year.

The game is a must-win for Arsenal, who need to keep up the pressure on league-leaders United.

The Gunners failed to fully capitalise on the leader’s slip up last week after throwing away a four goal lead against Newcastle before settling for a 4-4 draw.

Manager Arsene Wenger still has some serious injury woes, with Robin van Persie, top scorer Samir Nasri, Alex Song, Thomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou heading an extensive casualty list.
