Premier League preview: Blackpool v Tottenham

Blackpool defender Ian Evatt is confident his team can succeed where AC Milan failed against Spurs.

Harry Redknapp’s high-flyers head to Bloomfield Road on Tuesday after last week’s Champions League 1-0 victory at the home of the Italian giants.

But Evatt is determined to make Bloomfield Road a tough task for a Spurs side who are fourth on the English Premier League table, 10 points behind leaders Manchester United.

Blackpool, in 16th spot with only one win in 2011 and just two points outside the relegation zone, badly need three points which Evatt believes would be “massive” in their survival quest.

“Fingers crossed they won’t fancy it at Bloomfield Road on a cold Tuesday night,” he said.

“Every team we come across seems to be a special side and Tottenham proved against AC Milan that they are a fantastic team. They outplayed Milan at times.”

“Hopefully we can keep the level of performance we had against Villa and get a result.”

“It’s a free hit for us as the rest of the league aren’t playing that night, so it’s our game in hand.”

“Three points will be massive because the league is so tight we would shoot up a few places, and we want to get a win under our belts as soon as possible.”

“The lads still believe in ourselves and in the system we play so much. We always believed we’d end the run of defeats and we think we’ll get out of any trouble.”

“I’ve said all along that this group of players is special. When the chips are down we pull a rabbit out of the hat and we’ll continue to do that.”

Meanwhile, Spurs will be without at least four players for the key catch-up fixture, which was originally postponed on December 19.

Right-back Vedran Corluka will miss the next month after being carried off at the San Siro following a shocking tackle from Mathieu Flamini.

The injury is another defensive setback for Redknapp as he is already without Jonathan Woodgate, who strained an adductor muscle after replacing Corluka in Italy, Younes Kaboul (knee) and Ledley King (groin).
