Premier League preview: Bolton v Everton

Bolton meet Everton at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday needing a win to reinvigorate their European ambitions this season.

Owen Coyle’s Wanderers were flying high in sixth spot on New Year’s Day, but have secured just four points in their past six English Premier League encounters to sit four points outside the top seven and a Europa League spot.

Everton enter the match coming off a morale-boosting 5-3 win over Blackpool, courtesy of four Louis Saha goals, but will lose Jack Rodwell to a groin injury for a month after the midfielder started in their past three league hit-outs before incurring the injury playing for the England Under-21 side on Tuesday.

Daniel Sturridge can maintain his perfect record at his on-loan club, having scored in both of his appearances for Bolton after being moved to the Reebok from Chelsea in January.

Defender Marouane Fellaini could be a surprise goal-scorer for Everton as the towering Belgian has scored in two out of three occasions against Wanderers, but was red-carded in the sides’ most recent clash.

It was a striker, however, who denied Bolton the last time these two teams met, when Jermaine Beckford netted a 90th-minute equaliser to cancel out Ivan Klasnic’s goal as they shared the spoils 1-1 at Goodison Park in November.

Klasnic scored the winner for Bolton in their most previous home league clash against the Toffees, in a 3-2 triumph in October 2009.
