Manchester City moved even closer to clinching the Premier League title after edging past champions Chelsea 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A Bernardo Silva strike shortly after the restart was enough to seperate the sides, at least in terms of the scoreline though they were miles apart regarding ambition.

Antonio Conte’s side offered very little throughout the match with the result never looking in doubt especially after the deadlock was broken.

The gap at the top of the table remains sixteen points while that rise to eighteen with just eight to play should Pep Guardiola’s side win at struggling Stoke City next Monday and Manchester United and Liverpool draw when they face off at Old Trafford two days earlier.

Five-goal thriller

Jose Mourinho’s side reclaimed second spot after coming from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

Goals from Andros Townsend and Patrick Van Aanholt either side of half time gave the Eagles a commanding lead only for Chris Smalling to pull one back for the visitors on fifty-five minutes.

Romelu Lukaku drew United level fifteen minutes from tie while a stunning stoppage-time strike from Nemanja Matic made sure of the points.

Liverpool are third after they beat Newcastle United thanks to goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane while Tottenham Hotspur complete the top four after achieving the same scoreline as they played Huddersfield Town – Son Heung-Min the hero with a brace.

Wenger woes

Arsenal’s woes continued as they lost for a fourth game in succession, this time Brighton and Hove Albion benefiting to the tune of a 2-1 victory.

The Seagulls were two up inside twenty-six minutes thanks to goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reduced the deficit shortly before the break.

However, Chris Hughton’s men held on to take the points that saw them move into the top half while the Gunners remain in sixth place but are now thirteen points shy of rivals Spurs in fourth.

Inevitably, the result has led to a large number of Arsenal fan’s calling for Arsene Wenger to be dismissed and he can currently be backed at 7/2 to be the next top flight manager to leave his post.

Baggies beaten

The most likely manager to lose his job next in the eyes of the bookmakers is Alan Pardew, who watched his West Bromwich Albion side lose again, with Troy Deeney getting the only goal of the game for Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Baggies remain rooted to the bottom of the table while just a point separate Stoke City and Southampton who sit in nineteenth and seventeenth place respectively following their goalless draw at the Bet 365 Stadium.

Elsewhere, Burnley came from behind to beat Everton, Swansea City thumped West Ham United and a stunning last ditch free-kick from Riyad Mahrez salvaged a point for Leicester City at Bournemouth.
