A Ji Dong-Won winner with the last kick of the game gave Sunderland a shock 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

Roberto Mancini’s outfit tasted similar disappointment to local rivals Manchester United, 3-2 losers to Blackburn on Saturday, and both sides remain on 45 points at the top of the standings.

The opening 45 minutes at the Stadium of Light saw just a handful of chances, with the majority in the Sunderland third.

Yet it was the hosts that could have taken the lead inside three minutes but Nicklas Bendtner wasted a one-on-one chance with Joe Hart.

City’s Edin Dzeko had two chances of his own, with the first denied by Simon Mignolet and the second by the woodwork.

City could not penetrate the Sunderland defence in the second half despite domineering over their hosts, while Sunderland wasted another superb chance to surprise the league leaders as Stephane Sessegnon’s curling effort from inside the box drifted past the far post.

One great chance at the end came to Micah Richards who headed David Silva’s rebounded effort onto the bar.

The hosts took away all the spoils at the death with Ji rounding Hart after a successful counter and tapped the ball into the net unpressured, leaving City defenders in shock.

The win lifts Sunderland into 13th place in the standings, while City remain on top by account of their superior goal difference over United.
