Continuing to shine at the start of the new season, a high-flying Preston will welcome Hull to Deepdale in the second round of this years EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another very impressive display in their 2-1 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend, Preston have arguably been the Championships surprise package so far. With Alex Neil’s side now securing back-to-back victories over Wednesday and an empathic 3-1 win over Stoke last week, the former Norwich boss has seen his men when four of their last five contests and many around Deepdale are silently dreaming of a play-off charge this season. One man to watch on Tuesday could be leading goalscorer Daniel Johnson. bagging a brace over the weekend, the 26-year-old already has four goals in his opening five Championship matchups.

As for the visitors, while Preston may have once again impressed over the weekend, Hull once again flattered to deceive against Bristol City on Saturday. Suffering a 3-1 hammering against the Robins, they appear to be struggling to adjust to life under new boss Grant McCann. Now handed back-to-back defeats and flirting with the drop zone after their opening five contests, a huge part of Hull’s continued issues has been their form away from the KCOM. Failing to win any of their last five Championship matches on the road, Tuesday’s guests have also recorded just one away victory against Championship opposition since the end of December.
