Championship strugglers Preston North End have sacked manager Darren Ferguson in response to the club’s dreadful form this season.
Preston languish at the bottom of the Championship table having won just five of their 22 games so far this season, and Ferguson’s dismissal comes after they slumped to a 3-1 loss at home to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
The 38-year-old took the reins in January after the club dismissed Alan Irvine, but failed to have an impact and could only win 13 out of 49 games.
“The club expressed their appreciation of the efforts made by Darren,” a Preston statement read.
“We felt that the league position represented a significant threat to the club and it was felt that a change of manager might bring better fortune.”
