After losing their respective opening games, both Cameroon and Denmark know that it’ll be do-or-die when facing each other this Saturday.
Cameroon delivered a poor performance in their first group game against Japan and ended up losing the match 1-0. Star player Samuel Eto’o could not impress against the Asians and the pressure will mostly be on his shoulders to improve significantly.
Only Nicolas N’Koulou picked up a yellow card in his team’s opening game and will need to avoid getting booked against Denmark if he doesn’t want to be suspended for the final group game.
The Danes lost their opening game 2-0 to the Netherlands, mostly thanks to a very unfortunate own goal from Daniel Agger. In that game, the Scandinavians did play a decent first half but seemed deflated after suffering that own goal early in the second.
Nicklas Bendtner of Arsenal was a doubt ahead of the match with the Netherlands but was eventually in the starting line-up. Against Cameroon, he should feature as well.
Defender Simon Kjær was booked against the Dutch and will need to be careful against Japan in this game.
Cameroon and Denmark faced twice before in recent years, both in friendlies. Cameroon won 1-2 in Denmark in 1998 and the Danish went on to win 2-1, again at home, four years later.
Saturday’s encounter takes place at Pretoria’s Loftus Versfeld stadium and kicks off at 20:30 local time. The referee to lead this match is Uruguayan Jorge Larrionda.
