(GSM) – The first of a tantalizing set of World Cup quarter-finals takes place on Friday afternoon in Port Elizabeth as the Netherlands face five-time world champions Brazil.
The Dutch have been very consistent in the tournament, and the full return of Arjen Robben spurred the Oranje to a 2-1 win over Slovakia in the Round of 16.
Brazil, meanwhile, took it to South American rivals Chile in a 3-0 rout that saw Luis Fabiano continue his torrid play thus far in South Africa.
With Robben’s return being so successful, the Dutch have immense confidence heading into Friday’s last-eight encounter at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Coach Bert van Marwijk will enjoy fielding a fully fit side with no suspension issues heading into the game.
Van Marwijk is expected to name the same side that beat Slovakia in the last round.
Brazil coach Dunga, meanwhile, will have selection issues to deal with ahead of the game.
Elano is still not recovered from injury, and his replacement, Ramires, is suspended for the quarter-final.
It is expected that Josué or Kleberson, both of whom have made substitute appearances, could be drafted into the starting XI. Felipe Melo’s status is also up in the air after he missed out against Chile.
