Previewing Saturday’s English Premier League fixtures: Part I

Carrow Road

The 2011-12 English Premier League campaign continues on Saturday, April 14 with four fixtures on the matchday schedule.

This segment will include betting odds, match previews and match predictions for Norwich City v Manchester City and Sunderland v Wolverhampton Wanderers, while tomorrow’s column will feature Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion v Queens Park Rangers.

Now then, let’s kick-off with the betting odds for Saturday’s first two Premier League fixtures.

Betting Odds

Norwich City (5/1) v Manchester City (8/11); Draw (3/1)

Sunderland (8/13) v Wolverhampton Wanderers (5/1); Draw (16/5)

Bet of the Day

Saturday’s value bet of the day is Manchester City to win at Carrow Road versus Norwich City, paying 8/11 odds.

Preview: Norwich City v Manchester City

Premier League newcomers Norwich City host Manchester City at Carrow Road on Saturday, April 14.

Norwich have arguably been the biggest surprise of the 2012-12 Premier League campaign, tallying 43 points in 33 league games which is good enough for 10th place in the table.

Meanwhile, City struggles in recent weeks have dropped them into second place in the table and behind bitter inner-city rivals Manchester United.

Saturday’s clash at Carrow Road is a must-win game for Roberto Mancini and City, while a result would surely be icing on the cake for Alan Bowkett and Norwich.

All things considered, Carrow Road should be the site of an exciting fixture on Saturday.

Prediction

Mancini get’s a must-needed away victory, 2-0 City.

Preview: Sunderland v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland, with the visitors surely set for relegation.

Sunderland have been very solid at home in the Premier League this season, posting a 7-5-4 home record while scoring 24 goals and conceding just 14.

On the other side of the touchline, Wolves are 2-5-9 away from Molineux this season.

When you take both of these facts into consideration, it’s hard to bet against Sunderland in this one.

Players to Watch

Stephane Sessegnon, who has bagged seven goals and nine assists in 31 Premier League appearances in 2011-12,  is the player to watch for the hosts, while Wolves winger Matthew Jarvis is the man to keep an eye on for the visitors.

Jarvis has tallied five goals and four assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for Wolves this season.

If Terry Connor even has a chance to notch his first win as Wolves’ boss on Saturday, Jarvis will need to be on scintillating form.

Prediction

Sunderland cruise to victory, 2-0 Black Cats.
