Saturday’s top story in the English Premier League was undoubtedly Arsenal’s 7-1 rout of Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates.
The games most notable performances came from Robin van Persie and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Van Persie bagged a hat-trick and two assists in a 10 out of 10 performance, while the Ox scored his first two Premier League goals.
To make matters even worse for Blackburn, Thierry Henry netted the Gunners seventh goal of the game in the 90th minute, courtesy of Robin van Persie’s unselfishness.
Let’s hope that tomorrow’s Premier League fixtures will be at least half as entertaining as Arsenal v Blackburn was.
There are two fixtures scheduled for tomorrow: Newcastle United v Aston Villa and Chelsea v Manchester United.
Newcastle United v Aston Villa:
Alex McLeish and Aston Villa will travel to the Sports Direct Arena, previously known as St James’ Park, to take on Alan Pardew and the Magpies on Sunday.
Having tallied 39 points through 23 games, Newcastle are currently sixth in the Premier League table, but a victory over Villa would move the Toon into fifth place.
In retrospect, Villa are currently sitting in 13th place, having collected 28 points in 23 games.
Players to Watch
Former Bordeaux and Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan is the man to watch for the Magpies.
The 22-year-old scored his first goal for Newcastle in midweek after coming on as a substitute against Blackburn in the 88th minute.
Look for Obertan to showcase his technique and blistering pace against Villa tomorrow night.
For Villa, Darren Bent is the man to watch closely at all times.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker scored his 100th Premier League goal in his last appearance against Queens Park Rangers in midweek.
Will he net number 101 on Sunday? We shall see.
Prediction
Although Aston Villa are the “king of the draw”, I fancy the Magpies to take three points in a hard-fought 1-0 win.
Chelsea v Manchester United:
Sunday’s “main event” will take place at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea will play host to Manchester United.
With reports linking Jose Mourinho to Chelsea, Andre Villas-Boas may need to win against the Red Devils to keep his job as boss of the Blues.
Chelsea are in fourth place at the moment, but don’t look a threat to challenge for the top three spots in England’s top tier.
In fact, they will need to fight extra hard just to stay in fourth place to ensure UEFA Champions League football in 2012-13.
That being said, United will be looking for three points as well.
Get your champagne ready because this one’s going to be an absolute corker.
Players to Watch
Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia has been on cracking form for the Red Devils in recent weeks.
With Ashley Cole suspended, look for Valencia to attack and get the better of interim left-back José Bosingwa.
For Chelsea, talisman Fernando Torres is man to watch.
Can he score a dream winner versus United? He’s got the quality, but does he have the form and confidence?
Prediction
I fancy Chelsea to boss the game early on, but also for United to sucker punch the Blues on the counter on numerous occasions. 3-1 Red Devils.
